Day 1: Portsmouth, England on December 21, 1872
Today we will leave Portsmouth, England and hopefully we will make world history on the voyage we have planned. The weather seems to be a little drizzly, but does seem to be clearing up! Some of the tools I will be using are thermometers one is called CTD, and it measures conductivity, temperature, and depth. Also you we are going to need sampling bottles for sampling microorganisms. Sailors also needed to have long ropes with weights on the end to measure the depths in shallow waters. The biologist took sediments from the ocean floor and water samples to be chemically analyzed. They also took samples of the sea beds to collect biological samples, and plankton nets were often used to collect animals to be analyzed and determined what kind of animals lived in the waters.
Day 2:
The weather is just right to have a day off and I figured since the crew has been working really hard, so today I think we should get to rest. I've planned a great fun, relaxing day for us. First we'll have some eggs for breakfast, and then we'll play some shuffleboard. Next we'll eat while listening to our song. I'll have the cook, cook us up some salted pork or beef served with some boiled peas, potatoes, carrots and some bread. After that just relax for the rest of the day and tomorrow we can begin work again.
Day 3:
Today is just not a good day I think I came down with something; my guess is that is cholera. I have really bad abdominal pain and severe diarrhea. I need to stay hydrated because this diarrhea can cause dehydration which can be fatal. Cholera is contracted by eating food or drinking water that is contaminated with infected feces. Pretty gross!
