Group Assignment: Sourcing and reviewing scholarly articles and learning to recognize plagiarism

Learning outcome:  The student will be able to:

  1. Select relevant scholarly articles using prescribed DLSU library online databases (EBSCO, PROQUEST, JSTOR, Philippine ejournals).  https://www.dlsu.edu.ph/library/resources/databases
  2. Review the articles  by summarizing key points from the articles and explaining how such points can be used to address a selected action research issue
  3. Apply APA style in-text and reference formatting to the review and annotations. See Purdue OWL as a reference for APA https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html

Directions:

  1. Identify and explain an organizational and professional development issue or challenge in your own workplace which you wish to address.
  2. Use key words based on the issue to identify 3 scholarly (peer-reviewed) management, organizational or business journal articles which apply to your selected issue.
  3. Download these articles as pdf files.
  4. Annotations: Give the APA reference of the article as the title of each annotation. Review each article and describe in one paragraph the purpose, approach and relevant findings, frameworks and/or recommendations of the article.  Comment on how the article can help in addressing your selected issue. Label this as “Application”

Annotation application instructions

1.        Based on your identified issue, search in Scholar Google and then in EBSCO PROQUEST, JSTOR, or Philippine ejournals for a relevant article.

2.        Write the reference in APA format

3.        Summarize the content, method, findings of the article (maximum of 300 words)

4.        Explain how you can use the content of the article (maximum of 150 words).  See sample annotation below.

  1. Follow the APA author (year) format for citing the article in the text of your review paragraph.
  2. List all the References following the APA format for journal articles.
  3. Submit the review of the 3 articles in a Word file, 12 points, New Times Roman, double space, with your name, course code, section and ID number on top with the title – ASSIGNMENT: Sourcing and Reviewing Journal Articles.  Use file name: “sourcing and reviewing articles surname1 surname 2 surname 3.docx”
  4. Include a Google Drive link to all article pdfs which you used.
  5. Study how to recognize plagiarism at the Indiana University website at
    https://www.indiana.edu/~academy/firstPrinciples/index.html.  
    Submit your certificate at the end of your annotations.


Group learning and peer review

  1. Discuss your individual work with your group
  2. Evaluate each other’s work and suggest improvements.  
  3. Each of you will summarize your learnings from the feedback of your groupmates below your annotations.
  4. Agree as a group on whose work was done in the best way and submit the compiled work of all members (including learnings from the comments of others) with the best work on top incorporating all the improvements from the group discussion.  This is the work that will be graded.
