After my reading of the Chapter 9: Deviance
I have learned Merton's Strain Theory People cannot meet the "American Dream" and deal with this tension with socially unacceptable behavior, denial of goals and retreat, appropriate or work to change the covenant dream. The poor steal from the rich are labeled as evil. Likewise, the rich steal from the poor is not labeled as deviated.
1. I was surprised to know Deviance is a violation of recognized cultural norms. The rules guide most human activities, so the concept of deviance is quite broad. A genre deviance is a crime, violating the criminal law of a society. Even long criminal offenses, ranging from minor traffic violations to prostitution, sexual assault, and homicide All of us are subjected to social control, the efforts of society to regulate tune human thinking and behavior.
2. I see how the chapter information relates to my life that one source of embarrassment involves people’s errors in spaces or territories where they do not belong. Once time I walk into a woman restroom by accident because I was busy on the phone. When I walk into the restroom I saw a little girl washing her hand and I was very confuse and though that the girl is in the wrong restroom. Until I notice the restroom missing the urinal wall mount, then I realize that I am the one who in the wrong restroom. I was so embarrassing.
