We Beat the Street Chapter 1-5
The main setting contributes to the plot in a variety of different ways. The story took place in Newark, New Jersey, which had many bad neighborhoods. Living in these bad neighborhoods led to the boys being exposed to bad influences. Like in the book it talks about how the Bomb to a Baseball bat from Sam and beat a guy up with it. The Bomb is one of those bad influences that the boys could be exposed to. Another example is when Rameck’s mom took the money given to Rameck and instead of using it on electricity like she said she would his mom used the money to buy drugs. Rameck’s mom was a bad example for him by deceiving him and spending the money on drugs, another bad example. The use of this setting sets the plot perfectly to give the kids a lot of adversity in their childhoods.
The traits of the 3 characters can all be described in different ways. Rameck was very passionate and loved to act in plays in front of crowds. “”But the real reason,” Rameck told her honestly, “is the applause I love it when the curtains go up, when I hear the people in the room laugh or react to what we’re doing on stage.” George was very caring and was sensitive to what was going on and where he lived. ““But they’re so well behaved,” the woman said with surprise. “Isn’t that school in the ghetto?” Miss Johnson gave the woman
