Amazon’s Facial Recognition Software
Now Amazon is not shy about using technology to deliver packages and even food to their customers especially “drone mail” as many would call it though they are still working on the small details with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), but that is a whole other topic entirely. Now Amazon is developing facial recognition software to identify their customers or “targets” as they are testing this gadget out with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Facial Recognition Software is really a biometric software that uses a person’s own appearance and put it in as a digital information that allows the system to identify the individual mathematically like a fingerprint. Now we have retina scan, fingerprint matching, and voice recognition so it is not farfetched to believe that something like facial recognition is that far behind in development. The software has three basic steps which is scanning, identifying the specific target, and then match and verify. Sound easy and uncomplicated right? Well there are a few quirks to having facial recognition software.
The good side of having facial recognition software is that it has improved security since not many people have very similar facial appearances and meeting a doppelganger that looks exactly like you is astronomical at best, but not impossible to happen. Also, you don’t need to worry about hiring security guards to recognize an individual’s face every time since the system does it for you. Another positive is that it has high accuracy in identifying the person’s facial shape thanks to the success of 3D facial recognition programs and infrared cameras which makes it hard to trick a computer software program. The last good thing about this little gadget is that it is completely automated and can work 24/7 nonstop and it is somewhat accurate in finding its target.
