The Amazon rainforest is a huge rainforest. It is well known. It is the biggest rainforest in the world. It also is special. It has a biodiversity. There are exotic plants and animals that are endangered. Like other rainforests, it is in layers. The rainforest has 4 layers. The layers are different. The layers are forest floor, understory, canopy, and emergent.
The forest floor is the bottom of the Amazon rainforest. It is the ground. Since almost no sunlight reaches the forest floor, it is very dark. The soil quality is very poor: very few plants grow in it. There is moss, ferns, and some low growth plants. It is full of microorganisms. Decomposition happens here. Frogs, lizards, snakes, and anacondas are some of the animals that live there.
After the forest floor, it is the understory layer. The understory is above the forest floor, and underneath the canopy. Growth here is very dense. It is a dark and natural habitat, full with vines, shrubs and trees. Trees here are an average 12 to 15 feet in height. The trees have very large leaves because of the lack of sunlight. The leaves are so big that one can be used as an umbrella. The understory has many species of life. Many species that live in here are nocturnal. Some species that live here are tree frogs, bats, owls and leaf cutter ants.
On top of the understory layer is the canopy layer. The canopy is like the cover of the rain forest. It is where most of the animals live. It is a roof of the other layers below. It has thick branch system of vines and limbs that act as an umbrella. The layer absorbs ultraviolet rays from the sun.
