Increases Job Opportunity
In the Internet industry, Amazon has had a major impact on society. This multi-billion dollar establishment has increased job opportunities, built a foundation via credibility with consumers and provided extensive support to Veterans. In the United States, Amazon has increased job opportunities by continuing to build new fulfillment centers and by creating more virtual jobs. In a press release on January 17th 2017, Amazon has announced plans to open a third fulfillment center in Baltimore, Maryland. Amazon “currently employs more than 3,000 associates at its [existing] Fulfillment […] centers in Baltimore and [it] plans to create 700 new positions at its third facility in Maryland” ("Amazon to Open New Fulfillment Center in Maryland", 2017).
In comparison to the existing Fulfillment centers, Amazon’s third facility is expected to produce even higher success rates than its predecessor. This new opportunity will attract thousands of recent graduates, interns, high school students and many other types of candidates for employment as well. As a result, Amazon is positioning its company to succeed in developing a group of talented individuals, by constantly increasing job opportunities. Furthermore, Amazon is planning to increase the amount of virtual jobs that exist today as well. Amazon has anticipated that approximately 5,000 new virtual customer service roles will be created in 2017 (Amazon to Open New Fulfillment Center in Maryland", 2017). Therefore it seems that this repercussion that Amazon is providing to new future employees, might start to pave a path towards allowing their employees to work from home both full-time and part-time. This will permit recruiters to attract more talented candidates globally and domestically because it will provide additional flexibly, shorter commutes to work, easier allocations, and health benefits. For Amazon, these types of benefits will result in higher productivity, reductions of unscheduled absences, and money conservation. As a result, the company will most probably generate an excessive amount of revenue for their operations.
Credibility and Trust with Existing and Potential Consumers
Another positive advantage for Amazon is their impact on consumers. This company has built credibility and trust with existing and potential consumers by becoming more than just an ecommerce website. Amazon has developed a perpetual existence in people’s everyday lives by becoming a reliable service in many different ways. For instance, Amazon has made their services more accessible by creating the Amazon Locker. These lockers are placed at local convenience stores or grocery stores throughout US. It provides customers with a “self-service delivery location to pick up and return any Amazon.com packages” from many different places across the country ("Amazon.com Help: About Amazon Locker", 2017)). Unlike other ecommerce companies, Amazon has taken a unique approach by catering to consumers who would rather have their purchases delivered or returned to nearby places, other than their specific residential area.
Due to these improved facilities, Amazon has the ability to reach people who have previously avoided online service deliveries (which deliver directly to customer’s homes) because of the many recent incidents of theft – including the infamous Ernest Ohanyan and Amjad Jaouni case. In this case, Ohanyan and Jaouni had stolen 77 packages outside of consumer’s homes (Iacone, 2017). People, out of this fear of losing their bought goods, tend to find it easier to drive, walk, and ride a bus/bike to pick up items from nearby locations instead of having their purchases stolen by potential culprits. However, Amazon is building back trust by ensuring potential and existing consumers, who have been previously affected by similar incidents, to no longer have the fear of someone stealing their bought packages off their residential properties. Therefore, Amazon has decided to adapt to both their consumer needs as well as their own.
Providing Extensive Support to Veterans
Amazon has taken another unique and kind approach by supporting Veterans who have been released from their military assignments, for being severely injured or because of different voluntary reasons. Amazon has hired Tim Bomke a former member of the American military, who now works as the manager of Amazon’s military hiring program. He recruits individuals who are transitioning to new careers, especially in the technology sector of the company ("Amazonian Recognized for Innovating for Veterans", 2017) Amazon has taken the initiative to acknowledge how Veteran’s experiences have been like in the past, when looking for a career or job. Having a former military solider managing this program allows for a genuine and personal outlook/connection with other soldiers recently released from their Military assignments, in search of jobs.
