Western Canadian Coal Society Event
The aim of this event was to provide a technical networking group for professionals in the coal industry. They are a non-profit group, directed by volunteers from mining, exploration and research organizations. In starting, there was arrangements for food after that a company called Somerset from Australia presented on ultrafine coal recovery and tailing treatments. Although it was not related to my desired field or interest, yet I come to know about mining and coal industry. Besides this, I made a contact with Miss Meloniee, who was the organizer of this event and when I introduced myself as student, she was quite surprised to because their were only few students and she asked us about our goals and interests and recommended us to follow her company’s website so that we can avail a chance to create more network in British Columbia.
In addition to this, I made six new contacts, however it is in mining and coal industry, but everyone appreciated my field as I talked my experiences. I interacted with Dr. Dave Osborne the CEO of Somerset International Australia I shared about my experience in New Zealand and my tour to Australia, we talked about wines and craft beers as I mentioned my liquor experience and interest in this industry.
All in all, I feel more confident to start a conversation with new people from different industries. I am looking forward to work as volunteer with Western Canadian Coal Society in organizing such events. It will provide me confidence and will broaden my knowledge and network in Canada.
