Was Napoleon a progressive or destructive leader?
Napoleon has gone down in history as one of the most famous dictators to have ever ruled, but is he in the history books for the right reasons? In my opinion he was a progressive leader for France because they were in need of a strong leader after the revolution and napoleon was the answer. He greatly improved the living standards of the people of France; he united a previously divided nation and strengthened the relationship between the people and the government.
Napoleon improved the lives of the people of France in several ways. Through his Napoleonic code he abolished the feudal system which had several implications; It allowed the peasants to own land allowing them to choose what they produced, and removed a tax that the peasants would've had to pay to the lord of the land. Doing this not only greatly increased the wealth of the middle class but also strengthened the relationship between the middle class and the government.
He also united the people and recognizing members of society, one way that he did this was taxing all the citizens of France the same including the nobles. Another thing that he did which
