If we looked back at our UAE lifestyle over last 40 years, we would find that we were living as a nomadic people who travel to the desert and coast to serve and provide their family’s requirements. According to the standard living for UAE was very low since there was a dramatic decrease in the 1940s in pearling trade. However, Emirati society was strong enough to support each other and enjoying remarkable harmony mainly they were described by peace, Strong sense of security, Respect, Hospitality, Corporative, Helping each other and Generosity. Additionally, their strong religious and tribal bonds as well as they coherent with their heritage and tradition. In this report, I will discuss, UAE life previously and now, the future of UAE. Cultural Heritage, Religion, customs, and traditions, achieving sustainability, social communication.
United Arab Emirates before the union
Previously, Emirati residents depended on theses professions, agriculture, fishing and pearling to provide a good income for their life. Although UAE doesn’t have adequate power to maximize or earn the significant level of economic, they knew with their incredible and strong leadership. If I described UAE people, I would start with they are kind and generous people. They tend to committed to their tradition and heritage they respect each other, and they avoid underestimating other abilities. People how lived their known as Bedouin they used to live in a small tent that built from animals’ skins and hairs. Even it might seem exotic to some of the people but, our grandparents used to live in these tents because of their life situation previously. One more thing I want to clarify that the tent combined two parts one for men and the other for the women. Moreover, they provide a similar tent for the women to cook and for different purpose such as material storage. Part of Emirati were living in houses that called Al Arish “shelter made of palm tree leaves.” These type of room were using in summer seasons comparing to the tents that used more in raining weather or in winter (Al Saloom, 2010).
How does UAE look recently?
Nowadays, we can see that UAE achieved the highest development in the short term only, and it labeled as the most secure country in the Middle East. Unfortunately, not all of the countries had succeeded as much as the UAE and the reasons beyond this is UAE people and the perfect strategies they put with their leaders. The UAE becomes almost all tourists’ destination in their holiday, especially Dubai. Dubai is the most beautiful, modern, secure, entertainment, relax place that makes you feel comfortable. It has the biggest mall in the UAE which is Dubai Mall where you can find multinational people who love each other.
Another important thing about Dubai, it will be central of Expo2020, and that will affect positively on our UAE. Additionally, it will support to increase United Arab Emirates incomes that will improve the quality of life. Some of my UAE developments also is there are a lot of international businesses are opening here, or even they set their head office here either in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. The majority of people know that UAE before depends entirely on oil and gas trade as their profits. Today, UAE no longer depends on them because of these new professions trade, tourism, construction and encouraging the residents to think and innovate unique things and the big thank is for Dubai how to care about that progress and manage it. In fact, 30% of our gross domestic product (GDP) we earn from the oil and the rest are from tourism and business (The Story of the U.A.E, 2016).
Improving the quality of life
UAE government worked together with UAE leaderships to improve Emirati lives and welfare in various sectors including healthcare, education, and security to make an attractive and vital country. The United Arab Emirates has succeeded with that strategy and that allow us to attained wealth, evolution and strong relationships globally with people from different religion, nationality, and culture. In Reality, UAE achieved lots of efforts to develop the public sectors and make the UAE people satisfied. Starting from creating and investing in educational areas such as kindergartens, schools, universities and colleges moving to health sectors, hospitals ending with transportation, judicial systems and training people to be more qualified and professional in their careers. Also, UAE government was very strict with the crimes and curious to make the citizen feel confident and stable and more ambitious. As a consequence, Emirati will be motived; they will show their talents and depend on themselves to create their wonderful future (Al Tamimi, 2014).
History and Cultural heritage
The United Arab Emirates don’t restrict with the dresses it gives the visitors to choose their dress. Nevertheless, they should respect the host community and committed with the local guidelines.
One of the most significant occasions for all Muslims is Ramadan were they revive reading Holy of Koran during this full month. They have to fast for 30 or 29 days sometimes without eating, drinking or either smoking until Iftar at sunset. As a consequence, not- Muslim can’t eat, drink or even smoke in front Emirati during Ramadan in public places. There are specified locations in some restaurants, where they can practice or eat whatever they want.
Moving toward the Islamic holidays are not stable its change. The most important occasions or festivals in the UAE and GCC countries are Eid Al-Fitr, people celebrate for three days after Ramadan. Eid-al-Adha it stays for four days, and it runs on the return of pilgrims from (Al-Hajj) (Dubai History and Cultural Heritage, 2016).
Religion
According to Todorova article, although the UAE is an Islamic country who respect their religious rules. Such as, praying five prayers every day, wearing traditional clothes, prevent drinking wine or alcohol but it respects the other religions as well and gives them freedom to practice it in the UAE like the Christian groups (Todorova, 2010).
Emirati doesn’t care about different or visitors skin color, nationality or identity, religion, and languages that what Islam taught them. They are friendly, an open mind and social and they like helping people. For all Muslims, nothing is different from them they’re all the same.
Customs and traditions
To serve our rooted traditions and customs, we have to put clear strategies that might help us to maintain our parents’ lifestyle and efforts and educate people about our past. Here are some of my strategies to get more tourists and increase UAE economy over next view years.
Architecture
Building
We need to turn the old stores of the old houses into classrooms where the tourists will be coming in, and they will educate on how our grandparents use to trade and do business with people and what they use to sell and what makes our products different than other countries. Plus, we can also turn these old houses into restaurants that will be old serving local food. Additionally, we will repair an old shop to a traditional clothes shop for tourists to buy.
Agriculture
We will be focusing on architectures to make it look like nothing has changed and it looks like it the 1950’s again. We will be growing lots of palm trees around the old villages such as Hatta village in Dubai and Al Jazeera Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaimah because, in the UAE we are known for having of trees everywhere, especially in our houses.
