In the movie, The Giver, Jonas lives in an equalitarian society which strives for tranquility by alleviating its members ability to see color, acknowledge feelings aside from joy and contentment. Also in hopes to create a utopian society the elders or rulers create and an established set of rules. This set of rules includes that each person is to take their medicine every morning to stay “happy”/ prevent the elders from losing control of a persons verbal and non- verbal actions. Each member of the community is also assigned a career chosen by the elders. During the graduation ceremony Jonas is chosen to be the receiver of memory and because of this he meets the elder known as The Giver. While in training with the giver he gets to experience memories of the past world. These experiences of course include feeling pain and love. Also while in training Jonas begins to believe that what he experiences should not be withheld from the members in his community. Therefore he tries to share them with his friends and family even though he is clearly aware that such actions are forbidden.
