The Detroit Tigers are a Major League Baseball team located in Detroit, Michigan. The club was founded in Detroit in 1894 as a part of the Western League. They are the oldest continuous one-name, one-city franchise in the American League. (Unknown) Michael Ilitch now owns the Detroit Tigers and their home venue since 2000 is Comerica Park, which is owned by Detroit-Wayne County Stadium Authority. (Dozier)[pic 2]
Team Statistics
The Detroit Tigers have always been more of a homebody team. The thousands of fans that attend each game influence how the team plays and even their overall statistics can prove this. In the 2013 season while playing at home, the Tigers had an overall record of 51 wins and 30 losses, while an away record of 42 wins and 39 losses. So, their winning percentage while at home was 63%, while their winning percentage during away games was 51%. The players batting and pitching was also affected according to whether the games the played were at home or away. Team batting average away was .268 with 371 runs, and team batting average at home was .300 with 425. The pitcher Earned Run Average (ERA) at away games was 4.40 and at home games was 3.76. With all of the statistics that we have researched, it is really evident that the Detroit Tigers are more successful in every aspect of their game, while playing homes games. Miguel Cabrera
Miguel Cabrera was born on April 18th, 1983 in Venezuela. He plays first base, bats right handed and throws right handed as well. Before becoming a Detroit Tiger in 2008, he formerly played with the Florida Marlins for 4 years. Miguel Cabrera is now one of the best players in the league and is the “face” for the Detroit Tigers. Miguel has won the World Series, been named AL Triple Crown and MVP, eight time MLB – All Star and five time Silver Slugger Award. Along with the team proving to play better during home games, Miguel Cabrera also has stats that he too, does play better at home games. Batting average at home is .366 and away it is .331. While facing a left handed pitcher his batting average is .368, and against a right handed pitcher his batting average is .341. Miguel Cabrera lead the MLB in the highest batting average as well as the most RBI’s; two of the three categories involved with the Triple Crown. (Media)

In the 2013 season, the Detroit Tigers had the second-best attendance in franchise history. They drew 3,083,397 fans to Comerica Park last season and sold out 33 out of 81 home games, even with the increase in most ticket prices. Those attendance records are second in the team’s 113- year history, trailing only the 3,202,654 tickets sold and 41 sellouts in 2008. The team also sold its most-ever season tickets at an estimated 27,000 that year. Detroit’s average of 38,066 fans per game in 2013 ranks sixth among the MLB’s 30 teams. (Shea)
