The bible made us to understand in the Book of psalm 127:3 “children are blessings and gift from God” that definitely cannot be argued. But one thing for sure I understand is that it never told us if birth control is ethical or not. The birth control pill is the everyday pill taken for the prevention of pregnancy or unwanted pregnancy and also causes hormonal changes in the body. Some of these birth control pill are combined and they also contain the hormonal and progesterone estrogens which therefore stops the ovum from fertilizing during the monthly cycle, meaning if a woman doesn’t ovulate she cannot get pregnant. there are different types of birth control, these are abstinence, birth control implant, cervical cap, condom, diaphragm, virginal ring sponge, etc. Before we digest more on that one should understand or know that whatever has an advantage would definitely have its disadvantages, but where its advantages it more and profitable than the disadvantages then that issue should be taken into consideration. Before I bring out facts, there is something I want us to know. My 40 years old aunt who has five gave birth to her 6th child after series of trying to terminate it two years ago, even though she had put a stop to the last 5th child who is now 13 years old. When asked how it happened, she said she can’t explain and being the wife of a pastor, definitely it can’t be explained. But when asked if she uses birth control, she said it’s against her religion. Now the question is, would she continue with not using birth control thereby having unplanned pregnancies? Also what if while trying to give birth in the process it leads to death (though might not be common) but should we take the risk? Why don’t we save the stress of going through having all that and death? Also right now I know some of us have questions on our lips like, e.g. why would she try to terminate it since she knows that taking birth control is against her religion but abortion is not?. Well I would leave that for you to figure out.
Research shows that in United States currently, that 5% of majorly all unplanned pregnancies reports on women who uses birth control correctly and regularly and 52% of unplanned pregnancies on women who doesn’t use birth control pill thereby also having higher reports on abortions. Though the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledges the growth of contraception to be the biggest accomplishment so far in the 20th century in public health. Yet Americans still boost of higher reports of unplanned pregnancies and these comes from women unmarried majorly in their 20s. Though some of them says they don’t want to be pregnant yet reports of unplanned pregnancies still occur, even with the development of contraceptives/birth control pills. As of 2008, reports shows that 70% of unplanned pregnancy was accounted for on women who are not married in their early 20s and late 20s and this kept on moving higher for the past years, also even with the development of contraceptives nearly 45% of unplanned pregnancy can be recorded on younger age thereby abortion occurs, while an account for just 5% of unplanned pregnancies is as a result of women who uses contraception’s or birth control. One therefore can say that using of contraception or birth control pills not only reduces unplanned pregnancies, abortions but also disease. I.e. planning pregnancy reduces health problems/ issues and also reduces abject poverty (child penury). Though the bible says go into the world and multiply. This same bible says in Prov. 22:6 train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it. How can they cater for their kid, when they never planned for it or even wished they get pregnant at that time? Women who tend to have unplanned pregnancy could possibly have a shortfall of prenatal care and majorly give parental care to kids. Because they are unaware of being pregnant therefore they go into smoking and basically drinking and all that. And with these the health of the child is at risk of having disparities, compare to women who planned their pregnancy. Definitely they will have time to cater for their kids. I.e. having the time to breastfeed their kids. Another benefits of birth control is that it reduces depression (postpartum depression). CDC accounted that postpartum depression is increases daily among women with unplanned pregnancy and different report also testifies that there tend to be higher risk of postpartum depression and other health issues if a pregnancy is unplanned. So tell me what is wrong with the use of birth control after knowing that it’s of one’s benefits. Birth control come in different methods, if a particular method doesn’t suit your religion. That is where we have the above mentioned birth control methods. One of the articles of Mark Driscoll Jesus-follower and a preacher in the ethics of birth control made us to understand that different using of birth control is very helpful in term of unwanted pregnancies or unplanned pregnancy. In his article we tend to know that the use of no abortive birth control this method allows the use of contraceptives that prevents the sperm and egg from meeting, natural birth control, this is a method whereby the couples have sex when the wife is not in her ovulation period and stays away from sex when the woman is in her period of being fertile .This method is accompanied with the use of condom and no birth control( abstinence) tend to be one of the best birth control because it comply with the religious belief. And especially for those who thinks birth control is not ethical could use the above methods if other methods are not palatable and pleasant able to them, or if it’s against their beliefs.
