Stuff Essay
Things seem to rule the world nowadays, consumerism is at an all time high, and many people are just collecting more and more useless items. But I feel I have quite a unique relationship with my stuff, I love my stuff conditionally. As long as my things can hold my attention I love them. For example, I love my Rubik’s Cube, it can keep me entertain for minutes on end as I try to get faster at solving it. Frankly, as most teenagers, few things can hold my attention for very long, but unlike most teenagers, if not reminded of my stuff’s existence I tend to not use them. Without an accidental look directly at Speedy - my Cube – I don’t have any desire to solve him. Similarly, unless someone or something suggests music, my speaker system becomes an expensive dust collector.
Despite my lack of care when it comes to things, I still get quite excited when I receive new items. Because of this, Amazon has slowly made its way to my “Most Frequently Used Pages” and I have no shame. The sad thing is either I am in a stage where I feel as if I don’t want anything - or everything. Instead of constantly checking social media, I check the “Daily Deals” of Amazon. Sometimes I feel as I am living from shipment to shipment. After receiving the shipment my excitement resembles the trek of Mount Everest, an amazing peak that is followed by a disastrous descent. No matter the item, nothing can seem to hold my attention or excitement for very long. I am stuck in an unending cycle representative of a sin graph, with its highs and lows, with a direct correlation to the number of unique Amazon purchases I make.
