STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
If I were to look for an overarching theme to my life, my penchant for, and exposure to, business would be what I’d think of first. Ever since I was little, I can remember my father, coming home from long weekends away from home, beaming at the kitchen table while talking about how his team at his earth-moving firm was the best bunch anyone could hope worked for them.
My mother on the other hand, ran her shop selling sweets, condiments, and other delicious edibles not too far from home. As a young un, I remember helping her out at her store, and in the process interacting with a myriad of customers, working the scales and running the cash register when my mother felt particularly trusting. Needless to say, it was an exhilarating experience for me.
Through my primary schooling, I can recall my fondness for vocational and practical activity and knowledge, the kind of which remains a rare commodity in the Indian schooling system, right up to high school. Consequently, I found myself drifting more towards vocations that I found altogether more appealing, an effort which culminated in the establishment on my boutique, “Ishya”, as a Facebook page in early 2013.
It was in Ishya that I truly found my calling. The administration of a business I called mine, coupled with the handling of 3 tailors, and a karigar, a specialist in traditional embroidery work, saw me grow in a more mature and responsible role, in as such that, Ishya today counts the United States and Australia as among its most popular destinations for deliveries.
My responsibilities included, among other things, managing the four skilled workers mentioned above, as well as all aspects of business management – including all interactions with customers, whether it be the choices of fabric desired, or the logistics of having my packages reach the continental United States, intact and on time. However, by far the most rewarding and enriching experience, which I’ve had would be my travels within India sourcing the cloth.
All the people that I’ve encountered and interacted with have been an unexpected revelation. It is on my travels that I’ve truly nurtured an affinity for interpersonal interaction. Working around the familial, monetary and logistical constraints of the weavers, I managed to create a continual supply of the finest quality cloth that enables Ishya to flourish to this day. I can say without hesitation that my ongoing work with Ishya has seen me take on take on responsibilities and deliver on promises beyond what even I had imagined myself capable of, but I must add, that I relish every day the unforeseen challenges that bring out the best in me.
On the other hand In June 2014, I joined a recruitment firm Speed Consulting. I am working as a HR executive and Recruiter and my responsibilities include:
- Recruiting suitable candidates for our clients
- Communicating and coordinating between clients and candidates.
- Working on job portals with sourcing methodologies.
- Joining formalities and Relieving procedures
- Executive schedule and travel management.
- Operations Support for 30 Sales and Recruitment team.
- Building excels reports for Leadership team.
These responsibilities have furthered my interest in management, having provided the opportunity to take on many responsibilities of recruiting, which is an essential part of an organization. I am certain these aspects will hold me in good stead when I apply for a Masters In Management Program.
I must make it clear that my motivations for applying to the United States for further enriching my skills lie not so much in being resentful of contemporary Indian academics, but rather in recognizing that the infrastructure, exposure and cultural diversity offered by the United States would be ideal to further my dream of entrenching my name amongst the finest contemporary couturiers around. I feel that the United States’ emphasis on vocational and practical coursework, as well as practical experience would be of significant merit and relevant to my requirements and interests.
