Seven ways high school prepares you for failure: Summary
The author is trying to narrate a point that high school and college writing isn’t the same. To her, high school teachers were more focused on only one way of writing and in her case they were getting taught just to pass the FCAT. I agree with the author when she says she would here from her teachers “Now you’ll need this for the FCAT,” teachers at my school were always worried about the FCAT as well, of course they just wanted us to pass so we can continue on with our education.
Diaz mentions that your writing may not have to be objective anymore in college. I was always taught to write in objective terms, so I look forward to discovering new ways of writing in my college career. We all have our own preferences of writing styles, which concurs with what Diaz states, “ No two writers write alike. After all, we are all just individual unique people.”
The author emphasizes in high school hardly anyone would revise their papers. In college you have to revise your papers always, as she says sometimes you may think you are halfway done with your paper while in reality you aren’t. Therefore having to either start all over or just simply having to add or take things out. Jotting down ideas and writing drafts are always helpful. After reading your drafts then you begin to notice what you are missing so you can make the paper more thorough.
