Introduction

Have you ever wanted to become a well-known actress and be known for how you want to change the world? Salma Hayek Jimenez has definitely fulfilled this dream career. You may know her from popular movies, charity works, or maybe even seeing her win awards during popular award shows. “I proved to myself that if I believe in something and set my mind to it I could actually complete it.”- Salma Hayek.

Childhood

Salma Hayek Jiménez was born on September 2nd, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos,Veracruz, México. She was raised by a wealthy Roman Catholic family. Her parents are Diana Jímenez Medina an Opera singer and talent scout, and her father is Sami Hayek Dominguez a wealthy businessman. Salma is Lebanese from her father, and inherits Spanish traits from her mother. She was also raised with her brother Sami Hayek, who was six years younger than her. They lived close to the ocean so Salma and Sami would spend their days playing with the neighbors, running free, playing on the beach, and enjoying their young lives. Education/Adolescence

When Salma first moved to the United States she attended a Catholic school. After two years, she was expelled for messing with the nuns and pulling pranks on them. She was then sent back to Mexico. Salma actually moved to Texas and lived with her aunt for a couple years.She finished high school in Texas. Around Salma’s teen years she was diagnosed with dyslexia. This didn’t stop her from succeeding high school it just made her work harder. She ended moving back to Mexico because her parents were forcing her to go to college. She went to study at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and enrolled in international relations studies. Instead of finishing college, she decided to drop out. She wanted to pursue a career in acting so she moved to the United States. She had trouble trying to learn the English language when she moved because of her dyslexic condition. Marriage/Family

In 2006 Salma started dating Francois-Henri Pinault. Francois is a French, wealthy businessman. After a year of dating the two lovebirds got engaged. That same year they got engaged they had a daughter. Their daughter is Valentina Paloma Pinault, she was born on September 21st, 2007, in Los Angeles California. Finally, they got married two years later in 2009, on Valentine’s day in Paris, France. Salma has said that she loves being a mother and wife. She has never spent more than a week away from her daughter, not even on her honeymoon where she was only away from her for a week. Successes and failures

One of Salma’s first real successes was in 1989, she landed the title role in the Mexican telenovela, ‘Teresa’ and became a star in Mexico. After moving to the US, her first acting-related job was producing and starring in 2002’s Frida, as Frida Khalo. This film was actually nominated for six Academy Awards and Salma was also nominated for best actress which made her the first Latina actress to be nominated in that category. After producing Frida she started to branch out and do more things, in both acting and producing. She became executive producer of the show Ugly Betty, and starred in movies like Once Upon a Time In Mexico, and After The Sunset in 2006. In 2010 she was included in the (very funny) movie Grown Ups, she played the role as Adam Sandler’s wife. She continued to act in the following “Grown Ups” movies.
