Prejudice in Le Llorona Llora

La Llorona Llora is a story of tragedy and prejudice. It is a classic Spanish tale that can be trace back to the 1500s. The story takes place during the time when the Spanish conquistadors took over what is now Mexico. During the time, the Spaniards men would marry Indian women and have children with them, thereby creating a new breed. The problem is that Indians are look down and called savages. The story is about a Spanish soldier and his wife, and Indian woman. The two have children together. Problem arises when the soldier has to return to Spain and society would not let him bring home a savage as a wife. The actions of the characters show how prejudice can ruin lives in the play La Llorona Llora.
The Spanish soldier has to choose between his Indian wife and returning to Spain. The Spanish society would not let him bring home a ‘savage'. His children are allowed to come to Spain only because they are half-Spanish and might have a chance of being accepted into their society. The soldier loves his wife but he misses home. His family and their high class society would not allow him to have both, making him choose between the two. The soldier chooses his country and that drives the Indian woman mad with grief. She kills her children and cries in despair after seeing what she has done. She drowns herself in the ocean
