Planet in Peril Part 1

Planet in Peril is a documentary about a full year long investigation to study things that are causing huge problems including climate change, deforestation, overpopulation, species loss and some more issues that are completely negative. The research was done by a doctor and two biologist who traveled thirteen different countries in order to get their work done. According to the United Nations, the species loss is 1,000 times the natural rate of extinction; which is totally out of control. In Bangkok, illegal markets take place where people can buy practically anything they want and get away from it, this is a 100% illegal business. This market happens to be the largest wildlife trafficking operation in all of Southern Asia. In order to get the animals these people steal them from all over the world, including places like Thailand and other places from Africa and South America. The Environmental program of the United Nations stated that there are 18 to 50 thousand species of plants and animals that are being lost from this horrible phenomenon that is going on in the world, it needs to come to a stop. People go and buy these animals at the illegal market and kill the animals, then they create items that they sell from the animal parts to make money. People wonder why animals are going extinct, but then they go and purchase a dolphin fin at the local store in Florida. A lot of officers can’t even do much about this issue because they aren’t aloud to do anything unless they have probable cause of someone actually purchasing illegal animals. In China, the illegal wildlife is also very popular. Traditions in China go back many years, they use the exotic animals to create medicine. The popularity of the exotic animals in China has only increased in the years past and the police force doesn’t do hardly anything about it. While they were trying to focus more on the pollution aspect of the project they got directed toward the dabashon mine, which is an iron ore mine running miles that was ruined by the state when the mountain tops were ripped apart. The mining has turned the color of the water from a normal clear color to alternating from dark red to brown. Many people have died from the water that has been polluted from this situation. China also has 16 out of the most polluted cities in the world and there is only a total of 20 at that level of pollution. I feel that this movie really opened my eyes to more of this stuff that is happening and some of the real details that they don’t want us to know. I hate the way that they are treating these animals and I don’t like the way that they are running the illegal markets in other countries. One more thing that I believe is that the law enforcement and the government should take complete control of this harmfulness and finally make a change for the environment and people.
