OSI Model

The OSI model is a conceptual way of visualizing the network framework. There are 7 layers to the OSI model. On each of these layers, different protocols reside to direct the network traffic. The layers include, the physical, data link, network, transport, session, presentation, and application layer. Network traffic is taken from the user interface on the application where users can easily interact with it through a GUI, and It is passes through the presentation layer as soon as it is sent. The presentation layers job is to format the data to be passed through the network. The Session layer then executes a connection between two or more application. It also terminates the connection when the job has completed. The transport layer works parallel with the session layer and ensure the completion and error free transfer of data from application to application. The network layer directs and connects the network traffic through routing and switching. The data link layer decodes and encodes the data passing through the network. The physical layer is the physical medium the data travels through, such as the cabling and all other associated hardware.
