O2 Saturation

1. I would obtain her O2 saturation, assess lung sound, see if she is using her accessory muscles when breathing and check her ABGs if time allows. I will ask the client how long she has been running and if she pre-medicated herself before running.

2. Yes, I would start her on low oxygen so that she can be stabilized and comfortable until all wheezing and lung sound is cleared.

3. No, she should not take any more dosages of Advair because it should not be used to treat, sudden, severe symptoms of asthma and won't replace a rescue inhaler.

4. The client failed to pre-medicate herself before running; in addition she is supposed to protect herself from cold whether which is one of the triggers of asthma. Since she was running during winter time the weather temperature triggered her asthma attack.

5. Stay warm, avoid cold weathers, pre-medicate before starting any exercise, avoid air pollutants and be sure to always care a rescue breather.

Scenario 2

1. The nursing priority for this patient is to stay with the patient and allow her to clearly verbalize and express her concern regarding her diagnosis. In addition, the nurse should offer the patient outside support resources that could help her cope with her new diagnosis. Lastly, I would encourage her about smoking cessation which is one of the main causes of her diagnosis.
