Workflow
[pic 1]
A workflow diagram (also known as workflow) provides a graphic overview of the business process (Lucidchart.com). A workflow helps to visualize where different members of the company are in the process and what they are responsible for. The picture above shows the workflow of Lego Inc. manufacturing one of its new toys. The workflow is very similar to manufacturing products produced prior to this new product. The process is not complex, and has very few steps in the process. As the products move through the process it starts to take shape. At the end of the process the toy is assembled, packaged, and it is shipped off to be sold.
Efficiency and Effectiveness
The efficiency and effectiveness of the workflow help to ensure the process is successful. The efficiency of the flow is excellent with each step of the process with little or no waste in time, material, or labor. Each component of the toy is made and assembled and then moves onto the next step of the process. The effectiveness of the work flow is exceptional. This is partly because of the entire process is almost fully automated. Cameras are located throughout the process and check the quality of the product for any defects or deficiencies. The use of automated procedures helps with safety and ergonomics. This is because it requires minimal worker physical interactions with the process, which lowers the chances of being exposed to potential hazards.
Customer Convenience Issues
Lego Inc. strives to meet or exceed customer convenience issues by continually identifying issues and ensuring that they are resolved. While we strive to provide the best service and workflow possible for our consumers, we realize that no plan is perfect and view issues not as a negative but as an opportunity to improve or correct our workflow. An issue that has been brought to our attention was the timing of when the Lego set is available for purchase, after the movie is released, from customers that purchase the product in the store. Customers must wait until the product makes it through the workflow process from the manufacturer to the distributor, and from there to the storage warehouse and finally to the store for purchase. This causes an issue because anything can happen at any point in that process that can delay when the customer is able to purchase the set. We would like to eliminate any potential risks involved in the process to ensure our customers receive their expected product as fast and as efficiently as possible. Particularly, we would like to maintain the same release date as the corresponding movie.
