Dear Professor:
After taking this course, I have come to realize that I am not as bad at writing as I had previously assumed. Even after taking multiple writing classes, I had felt that my writing was inadequate and that I had a very long way to go before I could reach my desired writing level. However, I now see that I am actually pretty good at writing in the first-person perspective. I give descriptions well, and in terms of APA style, my grammar and punctuation are better than when I first started these writing classes. I am happy that I have made improvements during these APA writing courses.
In addition to my aforementioned realizations, I have also realized that I truly do have a long way to go until I could consider myself a “good” writer. I struggle with third-person point of view. I still get my references confused when I cite a source. I still make many mistakes when it comes to in-source citations. I also know I make punctuation errors at times, or I overuse commas. Although I am learning about how to professionally write letters or emails, I tend to format certain parts of my sentences incorrectly. APA writing as a whole is a bit of a struggle for me, but I am learning more and more with every class I take and every paper I write.
After taking this course, I have learned so much about different types of written communication and effective ways to use them. An example of this is when I wrote about the pros and cons of PowerPoint presentations. Prior to that discussion, I honestly did not know that PowerPoints could be used for more than just concise representation of a report or a lecture. Now I know that PowerPoint presentations can be used for fun educational things, too, such as a “welcome” presentation, or a movie slide for an open house.
