One of the most productive things the HR teams and hiring managers can do is to create a strong culture that helps employees be themselves at work (Arte Nathan). Human resources is a department that should develop relationships with the talent they hire. HR professionals play a vital role in helping a company create a positive work environment where employees choose to work directly with their leaders (LaMarche & Wilson, 2016). As the company experiences a loss they should remain transparent and keep their employees informed on the changes that may occur and remind them of the wonderful thing the organization has to offer. Don't wait until the "boom event" of an active organizing campaign to remind people of the benefits they enjoy today (elinfonet.com, 2011) . In the changes there will always be questions. The HR department should have extensive training in how to deal with situations like unionization as well as others. "To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart” (Eleanor Roosevelt). Reviewing the Nation Labor Regulations Board laws of do’s and don’ts can help the company legally stay in the clear. These trainings should be on going and mandatory for all in the HR department and it’s supporting leaders. The good news is that supporting leaders with tools and practicing how to deal with early warning signs isn't just a way to keep unions out of your company. These leadership practices create a solid employee relations culture that helps a company thrive (LaMarche & Wilson, 2016). You and other supervisors, as representatives of the company, are free to express the company’s position and make comments regarding unions in general, as long as you do not threaten or punish employees about any union activity or membership. Remember that your employees have the right to make the union a choice for them without reprimand. HR should remind the employees of their rights and respect them as such (Business Management Daily, 2011). Keep communication clear and concise. Do not waiver from the standard of operations nor the quality of customer service and public relations.
