CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

  1. BRIEF INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A mobile phone (also known as a cellular phone, cell phone, and a hand phone) is a device that can make and receive telephone calls over a radio link while moving around a wide geographic area. It does so by connecting to a cellular network provided by a mobile phone operator, allowing access to the public telephone network. By contrast, a cordless telephone is used only within the short range of a single, private base station.

In addition to telephony, modern mobile phones also support a wide variety of other services such as text messaging, MMS, email, Internet access, short-range wireless communications (infrared, Bluetooth), business applications, gaming and photography. Mobile phones that offer these and more general computing capabilities are referred to as smartphones.

Android is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. Initially developed by Android, Inc., which Google backed financially and later bought in 2005, Android was unveiled in 2007 along with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance: a consortium of hardware, software, and telecommunication companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. The first Android-powered phone was sold in October 2008.

The application to be developed is a voice recognition app called a Decius voice, which will be used to identify a human being’s biography and return it to the user and it will be also used by blind people who will be able to identify which member of the family he/she is talking to. The app is not limited to any user condition, any user can use it, and it can be used for game purposes.

It can also be used as a suspect identifier, which can be used by a witness to save the criminal’s voice while being attacked, and the app can be used to identify the exact suspect, among a group of suspect, caught by police.

  1. GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

The main aim of this project is to create a voice recognition application that will be able to identify a voice of a friend or any object by which its voice/sound has been stored in the system database. This system will help the user identify which person he/she is/was talking to, without even looking at the person, provided the person’s biography is present in the system database. This system will have a voice reply, which will sound the name of the person’s voice just received, which will be very much useful to the use of blind people, to be able to identify which person might be roaming around him/her.
