Some people believe computers have made life better, but have they really?
Today I'm going to give you some pros and cons of life since the invention of the good ol' computer; followed by my personal opinion.
So, computers were invented way back, 73 years ago, by a man names Konrad Zuse. It was nothing like the computers we sit at today, being a huge thing with no screen, but nonetheless, it was a "computer".... thing.
Unfortunately, the bombing during WW2 blew up the one and only computer ever made, along with all the documents and plans.
I know- Darn, the room-sized box of electrical wires and million little buttons blown into a thousand pieces. Shame!
Life back then was hoola-hoops, skipping ropes and hop-scotch. Kids didn't have any real electronic devices, and they spend most of the day outside until they were called in to have dinner- Unlike us today, sitting at the computer with a bag of chips updating our status' with "sittin at the computer eatin s&v chips. OMG lml lol :-)" ........ Yeah okay maybe that was just me, but anyway........
I'm sure everyone in here has used "word processor" on the computer at least once in their life.
Compare typing to writing. What's easier?
Some people, like me, might say writing. Others will say typing.
So here's a little scenario for you all. You've hand written an essay, and it's taken all day, you've put every little detail in that you could. It sounds great, but you're not sure of the spelling and punctuation. And YOU might be able to read it, but to anyone else it probably looks like a doctors paper, that's been eaten by the "homework eating dog" and found ten months later in the bottom if your school bag, and who can read them without squinting and turning their head?
Not me.
And then, computers! Your essay is roughly sketched out, you know what you want to say, you've got a rough plan beside you and you start typing. Auto correct kicks in and you're flying. Google is open, you've got facts at your fingertips and you've successfully halved the time it would have taken you to write it. Now there's plenty of time for activities! Yay more cyber-stalking Short Stack, Jesse McCartney and Ryan Gosling. #lovinglifewithmy5husbands
Guess that means life has been a little better since the invention of computers, huh.
Excel, not my favorite thing to use on the computer, with the little boxes and columns and things, but for some people, knowing how to use it, and having it on their resume is the difference between getting a good job and earning a steady wage, or living off centrelink, having three teeth and supporting collingwood for the rest of their life. So, maybe it would've been a good idea to pay a little more attention in IT.......... Oops.
Okay, before myspace, before Facebook, there was this thing that people would do, called emailing. And a weird thing before that called "sending letters."
Sending letters would take days to leave your hands and then be in the hands of the person who you'd sent the letter to, which wasn't so bad back in the day, but today people are impatient, and feel they need to know things as soon as possible. So, writing letters has recently became a thing of the past with more and more people getting online and giving computers and technology a crack. People in this day and age I suppose just don't have the time to sit down, pick up a pen and write a lengthy letter anyway.
So, emailing. A fast and convenient way to keep up to date with websites, sales, and especially good for work and school purposes. Though the "if you don't send this email on in the next ten seconds you will DIE!" emails are pretty inconvenient, I mean come on, the girl that fell down the man hole? The murderer under everyone's bed, I was practically shaking in my boots. Other than that, emailing is alright!
Now to the good stuff.
Trusty ol' Facebook for a great example of both a pro, and con, of the internet, more than likely the biggest reason people use the computer today!
