During the process of this gap analysis assignment, I was able to understand the importance of completing one. I’ve heard of companies having employees fill out GAP analysis for positions but never understood why. I completed a GAP analysis for my current job but it was centered on my knowledge of the position I was hired for. The GAP analysis was not as thorough as the one I had to complete for this course.
When I first completed this assignment I rated each item as a 7. I saw each item as important to my career success. The reason I rated each item a 7 was because I was transitioning to a new career and did not know the importance of each item to this new field. I figured that if it was on the gap analysis then it was important in some way. I also rated my proficiency level low for most items because I did not know. This assignment helped me identify what is important to my immediate career success. Completing each assignment made me understand what role each item played in my new career. Some items were important and would be used every day while other items were beneficial to know but were not used regularly. I learned a lot about myself while completing the GAP analysis. I realized how I perceived my self-awareness and other’s awareness. I learned how my self-management style influenced the management of others.
For the first assignment, situation audit, I had no idea what a situation audit was or how to conduct one. The terms in project 2 were foreign to me. I had to Google multiple of terms to see if they were of importance to my career. Little by little I was becoming familiar with the terms in the process of writing the audit. By the end of the audit I could recite what each term was and how it affect my career and how it correlated to the company I worked for. It made me understand the company more and what they represented. I was able to engage in conversation with coworkers about the governance and the critical resources. Before this assignment, I had no idea the extent of the organizational strategy.
