EEOC’s ongoing internal struggles are preventing the agency to be efficient. With increasing charges that are being filed, the agency struggles due to lack of funding. Many cases are not investigated and go unresolved due to backlogs and lack of resources. EEOC does not have enforcement powers like other federal agencies sanction employer who violate the law.
The article provides statistical data from the EEOC office on number claims submitted and cased that go unresolved. EEOC plans to provide and reinforce training for employers by identify any prior counseling correct the issues. Many years ago there was a large amount of discrimination in the workplace and no laws to protect employees. Title VII was passed which prohibits discrimination in hiring, firing, training, promotion, discipline etc. on the basis of an employee or applicant’s color, gender, race, national origin or religion. If an employee feels they have been a victim of employment discrimination they may a file a charge or claim with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
