Chapter four Results
4.0 Introduction
This chapter is about analysis of data findings as per the study objectives on the knowledge of patients about their rights in KDH.107 questionnaires were given out and only 100 were used for data analysis because they met the inclusion criteria and others had errors and others got lost
Part one
4.1 Demographic data
4.1.1 Gender
Majority of the respondents were male patients, the study showed that 52% of the respondents were male and 48% of the respondents were females as shown below

4.1.2 Age
Majority of the respondents were between the age of 35-54 years45% followed by 18-34years 30% 55—69 years 15% and then above 70 years 10%…as shown below

4.1.3 Marital status
Majority of the patients were married at 65%,those not married or single were 25% and those divorced and widowed were 15 % as shown below

4.1.4 Employment
Majority of the respondents were not formally employed 70% those employed were 20% and those retired were 10% as shown below

4.1.5 occupation
Most of the respondents were self employed as farmers 30% businessmen 28% saloonist 23% those employed as drivers 15% and housewives 2% and others 2%

4.1.6 religion
Most of the respondents were Christians at 95 % and muslims at 4 % and budhist at 1% as shown below

4.1.7 Level of education
most of the patients had secondary education at 53% college or university at 30% and primary level at 17% as shown in the chart below

4.2 Knowledge on patient’s rights
Most of the patient accounting to 75% did not know any of the patients rights while 25% noted to know at least one of the patients rights

most of the patients defined patients rights as basic rules and regulations of dignity and conduct between patients and doctors (58%) then 30% said that its everything that patients needs in hospitals and healthcare workers,12% said it is the freedom of the patients to do or demand anything in the hospital
Most of the patients reported to not have known the name of their doctor or nurse 71% while 29% knew the name of their doctor or nurse
Most of the patients did not know their diagnosis 69% while 31% knew their diagnosis

Those who knew their rights mostly were informed by the nurse or the doctor, out of 31 patients,24 were informed by the doctor or nurse and 6 by relatives and 1 by reading by themselves
51% of the patients had felt like their rights had ever or once been violated whereby 40% said through privacy and 45 % said through harassment while 15 % said through negligence
In the recognition of patients rights…82% of the patients were able to identify 5 rights out 11 choices given, those identified mostly were respect, ,information, cooperation and confidentiality while 10% only identified two rights which were respect and cooperation and 4% mentioned only refusal for treatment and consent seeking as patients rights

4.3 sources of information on patients rights
77% of the patients were not informed of their rights on admission and 23% report to have been informed while a relatively equal number indicated that they were informed through hospital charter 35%,friends/family 25% Radio 31% and finally newspaper at 9% while non mentioned television as shown in figure below
