The Magna Carta
latin for the great charter
King John I was forced to sign by the English barons in 1215
Act was to protect against the barons against arbitrary acts of the king (not mean to help the people )
included ideas like due process and trial by jury
prevented the king from having absolute powered
The magna Carta was followed by monarchs to varying degrees for400 years
in 1628 Charles I asked parliament forced the king to sign an agreement to the following:1.could not imprison people arbitrarily
2,could not impose martial law
3.could not force citizens to shelter soldiers in time of peace
challenge the ideal of divine
after years of fighting english government invited two people to be monarchs in England
however,first they had to agree to new set of rules '
a few of these new provisions included:no excessive bail no cruel or unu punishment fair trial and no standing army without permission of parliament
13 colonies were established over a period of 125 years
subjected to the direct control of the crown
a pattern of government was formed of these colonies
the king named a governor who served as chief executive
he also named a council as advisors to the governor
eventually this council wet on to be bicameral

all laws passed had to be approved by the governor and the king
each of them formed their own governments
each of these government were formed from influences of the english government

Writing the Declaration of Independence
The committee appointed Thomas Jefferson to write the actual document
Jefferson was one of the youngest delegates
He rarely spoke in congress but was well known for his writing
The first section of the Declaration of Independence emphasized natural rights
According to the declaration the purpose of government it's to protect natural rights of people .
