Juvenile Justice and Law Enforcement - (Case No. 1)

The criminal justice issues in law enforcement can be described for as policing, technology and cultural. Community-oriented policing, according to the Department of Justice (2016) “Community policing begins with a commitment to building trust and mutual respect between and officer and the community.” Secondly, increasing the use of technology can make it easier for law enforcement officers to ensure the safety of the public and security. For example, social media, it can be used more often with greater complexity and acceptance to be able to gather information and to be involved with the community. Lastly, the expansion of opportunities for women in law enforcement. Today’s women have traditionally made up a very small percentage of police officers, but the numbers are gradually increasing. It has shown that female officers tend to have a higher stance with skills in conflict resolution, problem solving and communication.

The processes for juvenile justice and law enforcement or as follows: According to Wright (2012) “First, a judicial waiver can be submitted by a judge. It transfers legal jurisdiction of the youth from the juvenile court to the adult court. Usually youths must meet certain legal requirements before a judicial waiver can be allowed. Currently 47 states allow for judicial waiver. Second, statutory exclusion results in a transfer to adult court when a youth has committed an offense for which the juvenile court does not have jurisdiction, when a youth has a lengthy prior record, or when a youth has reached an age at which the court no longer has jurisdiction. States vary greatly in what they exclude from juvenile court jurisdiction. Finally, in 15 states, prosecutors can direct file a case. Prosecutors decide to file the case in adult court. Direct files occur when, in the judgment of the prosecutor, a juvenile has committed a serious crime or when the youth has a lengthy juvenile record and does not appear to be responding to treatment.”

Messer (2016) has argued that “the life course theory has been used to explain why people stop committing crimes or possessing deviant behaviors”. They also demonstrated important life events such as gaining employment, joining the military, even marriage have seemed to have helped with the reduction of recidivism. The author seems to think that the drug courts may be justifiably be well-thought-out as a turning point for an offender. Many have participated in the drug court and have reported the it helped them achieve various important skills and ideas such as enhanced relationships with their kids and families, gained employment, and self-esteem.  

Vera Institute of Justice (2005) was able to launch its “Translating Justice technical assistance project to help respond to the needs among criminal justice practitioners for strategies that will be able to bridge the language gap between the police and the community”. The project provides consulting services, personalized training, with the best practiced researched to law enforcement agencies faced with serving progressively multilingual influences.

In summation criminologist have only recently begun to explore that these issues and the ways they traverse with one another that create patterns of punishment, lawmaking and crime. The objective is to provide a simple introduction for the issues that may enable others so that they can pursue the questions of how gender class, race and ethnic traverse in ways that form the production of crime and punishment.

Judiciary - (Case No. 2)

The judiciary system was put into place to help interprets and implement the law. In the criminal justice system there are issues within the judiciary. Prison over population, and over sentencing. Prison over population has become one of the key causal factors here in the United States. It has also become possibly one of the biggest problem facing the prison systems with the significances that can lead to be life threating and at greatest prevent the prisons from gratifying their proper daily functions. To conclude, over sentencing became a series when law enforcement and sentencing procedure had changed the tough on crime period that resulted in a dramatic development in the incarceration of prisoners.

To describe the processes for the judiciary is a summons or court order that’s tells a defendant of the actions against him or her compelling them to appear in person at court. It can be the acts of the court from start to finish. The process is as follows 1. Field investigation, 2. Police station process, 3. Complaint authorization, 4. Initial appearance, 5. Preliminary hearing, 6. Trial (Juror Selection), 7. Sentencing phase, 8. Corrections, 9. Cleansing phase.

According to Abel, J (2018) “Batson’s appellate virtues have been overlooked by the literature. The author research shows that crucial to claim that the Batson Appellate Appeal holds great potential to address the harm caused by racial discrimination in the criminal justice system.” This appeal protects all appellants prosecuting attorney, civil plaintiffs and criminal defendants, because it eventually defends jurors and the judicial systems as well.  

In summary cutting back on unreasonably extensive sentences such as imposing a 20-year maximum on penitentiaries terms.  Participate in more involvements that will encourage the youth growth and respond to delinquency that is age appropriate with evidence-built ways. By probing and addressing practices and policies, mindful or not, that subsidize to a more ethnic discrimination at every point in the justice system.

Corrections - (Case No. 3)

The corrections are impacted by many issues namely gang violence, contraband and aging population. Gangs are become a great threat in the correction system here in America, they have become projecting fixtures in the institution since the early 1960’s. Most offenders or not affiliated with a gang until they are introduced to it in prison. Riots, killings and drug use or usually the activity work of gangs within the prison systems.
