There are many differences and similarities between three books in the Torah or known as the Book of Laws or the Tanakh. It was originally, or traditionally, written by Moses. There are duplications and contradictions that make some scholars curious. There is Exodus, which explains how the Israelites came out of slavery in Egypt. Leviticus deal with the Levitical law. Deuteronomy is the second law which preps the Israelites to enter the land. In these three books, the verbal language is different and sometimes confusing the reader’s eye.
In Leviticus 19:3 it says, “Each of you must respect his mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.” Though in Exodus 20:12 it says, “Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land of the LORD your God is giving you.” In the second verse it explains that children should obey their parents so that the child could live long. Though in the first verse it is just saying respect your parents because God is the Lord. In Deuteronomy 5:9 it says “you shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers tot the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,”. In Exodus 20:5 it says the exact same thing which is a similarity. In that verse, it is saying that if mankind was to worship anything else and it wasn’t God, he would punish their children and their children for generations.
Deuteronomy 5:12 says, “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded it.” Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” Observe means to notice or perceive it. Remember means to know it or recall it. So does he want us just to observe it by remembering it? This is one of the differences that are in the text. Also in Deuteronomy there are many verses explaining what a person should and should not do on the Sabbath day. It says that no one should work on that day.
