Behavioral and Psychological Characteristics of Sex Offenders
Mary,
I enjoyed reading your post this week and I agree with you that generally, sexual offenders lack intimacy and social skills and are recluse. I also agree with you that sexual offenses can also be severe such as rape or mild such as touching another person without their conceit. It is sad that, most of the time the mild sexual assaults are not reported or researched on.
As you have stated, male sexual offenders are often involved in other non-sexual offenses such as being violent to animals and people, setting fires and shoplifting, arson and shoplifting. I also concur with you that male sexual offenders are opportunistic, sadist, impulsive and aggressive. Some have mental disorders and retardation. Most of the male sexual offenders also spend a lot of time watching pornography which affects their psychology making them have sexual fantasies and then commit sexual offenses.
I agree with you that statistics shows a small percentage of women get involved in sexual offenses, and I also believe that the percentage is an understatement. This is because most sexual assaults committed by female offenders go unreported. Most female offenders sexually touch fellow women and children appropriately and without the victims’ consent. As you have stated, female sexual offenders have background characteristics of sexual abuse and mistreatment and dysfunctional homes. I can also add that most of them also spend a lot of time with pornographic materials which make them have sexual fantasies which results in sexual assault.
