The Internship Program exercises a significant importance as it enables a student to be accustomed to the real world business activities. During the internship program, students get the opportunity to understand and work closely with the people of an organization and learn about the core activities, responsibilities and corporate culture of that organization. This program not only helps to get the practical exposure, but it also enables a student to develop their analytical as well as their interpersonal and communication skills and scholastic aptitudes. Most importantly, it is to have a real-life orientation of the academic knowledge.
As a partial fulfillment of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course requirement, I was assigned to my internship program in IFIC BANK LIMITED. In IFIC Bank Limited, I had to work in the General Banking Section, Credit Section, and Foreign Export and Import & Remittance Section. During my internship period, I was placed in Pallabi Branch of IFIC Bank Limited. My organizational supervisor was Principal Officer of Pallabi Branch, Mrs. Arifa Begum & Senior Officer, Tahrima Bilkis of Pallabi Branch. My topic was Retail Banking Operation of IFIC Bank Ltd. which was assigned by the faculty supervisor Professor Dr. Sujit Saha, former director of BIBM, approved the project and authorized me to prepare this report as part of the fulfillment of the internship program.
1.2 Background of the Study
Banking system occupies an important place in a nation's economy. It plays a pivotal role in the economic development. By mobilizing the capital of an economy, banking system plays a significant role to ensure economic growth. Bangladesh's banking sector consists of Central Bank (named as Bangladesh Bank), Commercial Banks, Development Banks and Specialized Financial Institutions. The Commercial banks comprise of Nationalized Commercial Bank (NCB), Local Private Bank, Foreign Private Bank, and Islamic Bank. In recent years, we have observed a mushroom growth in the banking sector in Bangladesh. As banking industry is expanding its activities from traditional banking to the customer oriented banking system, experiencing ever-increasing interest in retail banking. Such a radical change influenced the banks to emphasize more on retail banking in order to exploit the vast opportunities and potential lies in retail banking. In spite of such potential banks are facing different types of problems. To survive in this competitive banking world banks require developing appropriate financial structure and providing sophisticated operational services to attract more customers.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
To prepare the report I was aware with day-to-day retail functions of Pallabi Branch of IFIC Bank Ltd. The objectives are given below:
Broad Objective:
The broad objective of the study is to analyze Retail Banking Operation of IFIC Bank Limited at Pallabi Branch.
