Worldview Paper

Opinions in todays world can define judgments about others or Altera friendship. The question is where do these opinions come from and how come we all have such different ideas on things in our world. These opinions come from our own personal worldview. A worldview is a person’s perspective of the world today and this can influence decisions in life. If you put on a pair of glasses with red lenses, you will see things through a red film. A worldview is the lens we see through and how we conduct our life, it’s the framework of who we are and why we do the things we do (Weider, Gutierrez 57-78).

To determine different worldviews there are five different questions to ask. The five questions consist of origin, identity, meaning, morality, and destiny. A Biblical worldview has is very distinctive in answering these questions and all of these answers come from one source, the Bible. The question of origin for a Biblical worldview is that God is the creator. Genesis 1:1 clearly presents that God created the Earth and all of the things in the Earth. The beginning began with God and that’s the origin of life for a Christian. The next question is dealing with identity, and what it means to be human. According to the Bible is Genesis 1:27 God created us in his image. We are image bearers of the Lord and He wants us to know him. God created animals before humans but put Adam over the land and animals. Adams job was to name all of the animals. Humans are not more important than animals; they are with us so we can learn more about our creator and as a resource. Humans are the caretakers of the earth, “…humans are called to be and to do; to enjoy life and living on the earth that is their habitation; to provide for themselves and others…” says John Valk in his article Christianity through a worldview lens. This leads to the next question of a worldview; the question of meaning or purpose. Our purpose as Christians is to simply know God. Humans need to learn about their creator and strive to be as close to Him as we possibly can. We are called to take care of his creation by “…restoring justice, nurturing loving relationships, seeking equality, striving for peace, appreciating the beauty around us…”(Valk, 162). We are called to spread the love of the Lord, He loved us so much to create us in his image and we need to love people the way he loved us by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ so that others can celebrate in heaven with other Jesus followers. Morality for Christ followers is clearly written out in the Bible. The Bible is our tool to decipher what is right and what is wrong. It is clearly stated in the Ten Commandments, or the greatest commandments that God tells us through his word. We are to love all people as He loved us. If a Christian is trying to decipher what may be right or wrong in a situation, they should use the Bible as their tool to decide. It takes time, research and personal time with God in prayer but it’s the best way to live following Jesus. The last question, I believe is the most important, the question of destiny and as a Christian this should be the most important to us. John 3:16-17 says “For God loved the world in this way He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”  God sent his one and only son to come to earth and bear the sinful world that we live in. Jesus not only lived in a sinful world but he did so in a perfect manner, never sinning. And then Jesus took all of the sins of every person ever to live on this planet, to the cross, where he died a most brutal death. He hung on that cross with my terrible sins holding him their, your terrible sins. Before taking his final breathe on the third day he declared, “it is finished,” telling of Gods plan to save us. Jesus was buried in a tomb and three days later he rose from the dead, conquering death and sin and creating a way for us, sinners, to spend eternity with our creator. That was Gods plan; He wanted to save us, and He loves us so much to make a way for us to spend forever with Him! What a love!
